OCD ERP Group
In light of what is happening in our world, supporting each other is essential. In Focus Counseling will be offering an online Telehealth OCD support group for individuals struggling with OCD starting Thursday January 21, 2021 from 6:00-7:00 pm. To join this group, participants must display they are able to practice self-emotional regulation to venture into OCD and exposure themes.
Not only will this group be an opportunity for the OCD community to support one another, this group will also be an Exposure and Response Prevention E/RP group. Meaning, each session as a group we will come up with and complete E/RP exercises, both individually and together. Being a part of this group will provide you support and progressive change to help you on your road to recovery from OCD.

I know what you’re saying right now – I don’t have time to do this because my job / kids / school / busy-ness won’t allow for it. You’re stressed out, over stimulated, over scheduled and can’t possibly add one more thing to your plate.
Stop making excuses and hiding behind your stress. Make time for this – you deserve it!
This 6 week group program will provide:
- Discussions about what you would like to change in your life and what keeps you from taking action.
- Learning practical mindfulness techniques you can utilize at home to help with present moment awareness.
- Participate in stress management exercises in group and as homework.
- Identifying ways to cultivate peace and happiness in your life to make way for creative change.
Change is possible in your life but you have to be willing to take a step in a different direction.
This will be the first event of its kind, which international advocates and peer support specialists will gather in Denver to create a supportive community for OCD.
OCD Group therapy and support
There are very few OCD Group Therapy options available in the Denver area. Additionally, limited peer support is available. If you have been struggling with OCD and feel completely stuck in your rituals, you don’t have to go through this alone. A new therapeutic group will be offered on Thursdays on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month run by OCD specialist and licensed therapist, Lori Johnson, M.A., LPC. LAC and OCD advocate and peer support specialist, Chrissie Hodges, B.A. THE OCD GROUP IS CURRENTLY NOT RUNNING. Please check back for updates
The group sessions will start with the basics of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which is the evidenced based treatment for OCD. We will build upon your learning and work towards targeting an obsession or compulsion as a group. You are most likely to benefit from repeated exposure sessions, so take that into consideration. Because treatment is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)-based with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as adjuncts, as group progresses, participants must be willing to complete exposures targeting their fear that is part of the OCD group therapy. You will get encouragement from the group clinician, peer support specialist, and group peers in a caring and supportive environment.
The the meeting will be focused on support of recovery and stigma of OCD and mental health. Chrissie is an OCD advocate and can help the group talk about ways to overcome stigma and continue on your journey of recovery.
*Due to the potentially sensitive issues that will be addressed in this group (e.g., harm obsessions, sexual obsessions, contamination and hygiene-related issues), participation will be limited to adults over 18 years of age. Individuals with all types of OCD are welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring exposure materials to this session, you will be advised ahead of time when these tools will be required (e.g., digital voice recorders, smart phones, contaminated objects, feared objects, notebooks for exposure, triggering pictures, etc.). Exposures will primarily be self-directed but will be facilitated by Lori Johnson and support by Chrissie Hodges. *In order to reserve adequate time for exposure, off-topic discussion will not be permitted.
