Lou Ashcraft (he/him/his)

Couples and Family Therapist, Unlicensed Psychotherapist NLC.0111257

Lou joins In Focus Counseling as a clinical intern and Master of Counseling Psychology candidate after working for a year at CU Denver’s Student and Community Counseling Center. He works with individuals, couples, and families and treats concerns such as anxiety and depression. Lou also has experience with relationship struggles and life adjustments and challenges. He draws on a variety of theoretical orientations, using a holistic approach with a recognition that each client requires a treatment plan tailored specifically to their needs.

Through his work with couples, Lou helps partners deepen their awareness of themselves, as well as the cycles that play out over and over again in their relationship. Through attaining this awareness, Lou is able to help couples navigate more effective styles of communication and break out of maladaptive patterns. Lou is currently in the process of completing Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Lou identifies as transgender/transmasculine and is passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ community. His experience includes working with clients exploring or struggling with sexual orientation and gender transition. Lou believes all identities are important and encourages clients to bring all parts of themselves into session. He views the therapeutic process as most successful when both he and his clients show up as their whole selves in treatment.

When meeting with Lou, you will receive support that is friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. Lou’s goal in treatment is to help each client meet the goals that they set forth for themselves, while providing a safe environment free from judgment. Schedule with Lou here
